Determine what kind of material and space you are dealing with

The first step? Make sure the surface is clean and dry. Always check for cracks, damp spots, dirt and other irregularities. This allows you to determine which materials you need. We recommend that you allow your VYGO floor to acclimatise for 48 hours in its closed packaging before you start placing it. Ideally, the ambient temperature is at least 18°C.

Make a plan and start with the first row of boards

Do you lay the floor horizontally or vertically? A horizontal pattern makes the space wider, a vertical one creates depth. If you're not afraid of some extra cutting, you can also for a diagonal pattern that makes a small room look bigger, for example. Made your choice? Most VYGO vinyl floors come with an integrated subfloor. Have you chosen a variant without a subfloor? First roll it out separately. Then lay the first board in the right corner of the room with the tongue side facing the wall. You can remove the tongue from the boards by cutting and breaking off at the top. Install the first row of boards from there and allow approximately 6.5mm between the wall and the floor for expansion. Also think about the pattern in your floor. Do you like a tightly measured repetition or is an organic pattern more your thing? Each pattern creates a different sense of space. One of the most beautiful and popular bonds is when the joints of the rows are on 1/3 of the length.

Here's how to click your floor together

Click the connection between the two boards together by pushing the first board straight down into the groove of the second board. Don't forget to strengthen the connection by knocking on it with a rubber hammer. The first two rows determine the rest of your work: if you place them precisely and carefully, the rest will follow automatically. Ready for the second row? Align it with the first row of boards. Click the first board of the second row by clicking the tongue on the long side into the groove, holding the board at a 45-degree angle, and then pressing down the board of the second row. The second board can then be connected to the second row by first clicking it to the first board of that row. The second board can then be lifted in its entirety to a 45-degree angle to click the long side into the first row. Repeat this for each board and row.

Good to know

Of course, a board can be damaged unexpectedly. The best thing you can do is to carefully click loose the boards that you have laid and start again: patience pays off, because it will keep your floor intact. The vinyl boards can be shortened with a metal slat and a saw, or a sturdy Stanley knife. You can easily trim the boards and you can use the remainder for the next row (unless the board has become smaller than 15cm).
