PARQUET - 3 myths debunked

You love the warm look of a real wooden parquet floor, but the wild stories about
maintenance, stains and scratches keep you from following your heart? Let us debunk
some of these myths and help you in making the right choice.

PARQUET AND UNDERFLOOR HEATING ARE NOT COMPATIBLE

Are you wondering whether this is the right combination? Multi-layer parquet, regardless of whether it is two-layered or three-layered, can be combined perfectly with underfloor heating. In case of multi-layer parquet, the top coat is glued on to a stabilised surface. Because of this stability, multi-layer parquet will shrink, expand or warp less when temperatures change. Besides, multi-layer parquet is thinner than solid parquet, which means that the loss of efficiency is limited.

PARQUET AND PETS DO NOT GO TOGETHER

Do you have a four-legged friend at home? The nails of your cat or dog will never scratch the wood of your parquet. However, it is best to go for an oiled version. The protective oil layer will never scratch, which is something that can occur with varnish.

Also consider the surface of your parquet. In a structured surface of deep grooves and/or knots, hair and dirt will quickly accumulate. So, it is recommended to choose a parquet with a smooth surface. This will make sure you're happy with your choice, day after day!

PARQUET IS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN

Depending on the finish with varnish or oil, the maintenance process of your parquet will look slightly different. Regardless of the finish, we recommend you use natural soap and lukewarm water to mop. If you use hot water, the wood can shrink and expand more. The same goes for using a soaking wet mop, because of the absorption of water. Use a damp mop, but make sure that your floor can dry sufficiently quickly. A breeze through an open window can never hurt.
